The Blossoming Of Maximo Oliveros

Dear Me,

I am really looking forward to watch the film,
Ang Pagdadalaga ni Maximo Oliveros (The Blossoming of Maximo Oliveros), which will be shown on November 30.

Written by Michiko Sy Yamamoto and Raymond Lee plus directed by Solito Aureus, the film is all about
gay, pre-teen Maxi is slavishly and uncomplainingly devoted to his family of small-time criminals. He cleans house for them, washes their underwear, mends their tattered jeans, and if push comes to shove, covers their tracks so they will not get caught. His world revolves around them. That is, until he meets Victor, a principled, idealistic and handsome policeman."

Maxi is at the crossroads - that is, choosing between loyalty to his family or fighting for the purity of his first love?

Despite the growing numbers of the male homo belonging to the third sex, the skeptics amongst us have yet to learn to dispel antipathy and indifference. Our patriarchal society has dictated this kind of flow in our system.

Gays are fun to be with; not because they are always the butt of jokes but because they are adorable and enjoyable in their own way. They are witty and creative.

By the way, this film is also one of the winning entries in the recently-held Cinemalaya festival. Don't forget to watch it.
