October 2010 24 Hour Read-A-Thon: Starts Now Hour 1

Dear Me,

Because of some factors unexpected or not, I was not able to accomplish any of my weekly tasks. It was only yesterday that I was able to work on them. The good thing was that I was somehow able to tackle the majority of it this morning. And boy, I was so happy because I could now see that I could participate in tonight's reading marathon.

The last thirty minutes, I was able to hunt for the books I would like to get started on as well as the snacks I would like to devour in-between flipping through hundreds of pages.

I am only gearing up for five books (as usual).

Where are you reading from today?

~ from our bedroom (Manila, Philippines)

3 facts about me:

~ I collect stickers (name of countries on them).
~ I love Mr. bean.
~ I am and will always be a coffee lover.

How many books do you have in your TBR pile for the next 24 hours?

~ Oh, only five. Photo above. :)

Do you have any goals for the read-a-thon (i.e. number of books, number of pages, number of hours, or number of comments on blogs)?

~ First and foremost, be able to finish the five books that I have for this read-a-thon. Next is to be able to wander around and visit other book lovers. :) It would be fun to discover and meet other bloggers who love books as I do.

If you're a veteran read-a-thoner, any advice for people doing this for the first time?

~ I really do not consider myself as a veteran (participated a number of times, though) but for first-timers, I suggest read with a smile. Don't pressure yourself with the volume of books others are reading. Also, it will help if the books you pick for this event is lighter in terms of pages.

Enjoy and have fun! I am currently reading Perfect Switch by Lisa Plumley.

I will be updating every four hours. :)

  2. (Non)traditional Buddhist readathon blessing:

Just as the books fill the shelves,
Pile together on the floor and stack up on the table
So may the joy of the readathon
Flow forth to brighten your day and lift your spirit.
Books already read, books in progress and books yet to be read.

By the power of every word on the page
    May your book be delightful,
    As scary as Lovecraft’s Cthulhu
Or as sweet as a box of See’s candy.

Let the power of the images evoked by words
Keep you stay awake long through the night
    May no obstacle impede
    Your day filled with books.

For all of those who are reading today
Who follow in the path of Dewey
May your day be filled with the four blessings
Of fabulous books, tasty snacks, comfy chairs and joy.
