Reflections

by , in
Dear Me,

It has been more than a week since I logged in. Nyaw.

I was still struggling the entire week last week with my last project for the fiscal year. I thought then that I was truly entering senior citizenship. I never felt so tired in my whole life.

This week, I feel so lazy. I am totally tempted not to report for work. But of course, I have to. I have so many things to do before I make the grand exit.

Aside from that, I have to make amends with a number of people whom I thought have wronged or offended me. I realized that it would do me no good and that I would be facing a new chapter in my life.

It is better to start clean and fresh.

Reunion With Friends

by , in
Dear Me,

I was never able to post my New Year's Resolution here but I had them mentally imprinted. I only had five.

One of those resolutions is to keep in touch with my friends - whether they are long, lost friends, old chums from way back, new acquaintances who are worthy to be friends with.

Meeting them individually was difficult. It was hard squeezing dates in an already packed schedule. But I was able to do it and I had a great time. Everybody did. =)

____________________

Late January, papi and I headed to Robinson's Place Manila to meet some friends of mine. Since we were kinda early and she was sort of late (hehehe), papi and I wandered around the mall - flipped through books and magazines at National Bookstore and the book/magazine stalls near the Faura entrance, checked sportshops, observed people buying colorful and interesting pillows of various shapes and sizes in one of the stalls from the 2nd floor, commented about the people going up and down the escalator... Well, we got bored and ... hungry. Hehehe.

Since we had fun food-tripping at BreadTalk in Singapore, I guessed it was the reason why we found ourselves joining the throng of people inside this delectable, mouth-watering bread shop armed with a tray and tongs. Papi and I were at a loss what bread to choose since all of them were so inviting. I was almost tempted to touch them. Hehehe.

We decided to pick three (3) since we would be having dinner later. We had D'Dutch, Bino-Q and Tuna Cheese Puff (I love anything tuna). Goodness. Everything was so yummy.

Papi and I just noticed some differences between BreadTalk in Singapore and the one here in Robinson's Place Mall. Unlike in Singapore, the franchise here in Robinson's does not allow anyone to take photos of anything. In short, no camera at all. In Singapore, no one bothered to stop me whether I took shots of the people dining inside, the bread and cakes, the kitchen, the process of baking-the-bread-on-site. In fact, the crew were all smiling at me. =)

Another difference was that BreadTalk Robinson's bread collection were kinda small compared to that of Singapore's. Also, we noticed the difference in the appearance of Mt. Fuji (bread). The one we have here looked far more different than that of SG.

Still another difference was the size of the dining area. SG's was bigger while the one here was too small. Too congested, in fact. We had to rush to a table since someone was also eyeing it, too.

Anyway, the last 2 differences could be attributed to the following factors: geographical location (Philippines vs Singapore), size of the franchise area (allocated size of the breadshop in the mall), taste and culture (one bread cannot be found in the other for the reason that Filipinos may not find that particular bread tempting enough which may be different to Singaporean taste buds).

Anyway, it was a gratifying food-tripping experience. I just hope that BreadTalk in Glorietta will have a dining area soon.

My friend, Jeni was still nowhere to be seen. Papi and I decided to visit Paeng's Midtown Bowl (still inside the mall). He said he wanted to check it out. It had been quite a while since we played bowling. He suggested why not meet my friend here since we didn't know what time she would be arriving.

When Papi finally decided to play, Jeni came. Hehehe. Finally.

Jeni has been a good friend of mine way back from my college days at UP Manila. We met when I first joined the university's volunteer organization,Ugnayan ng Pahinungod. We were part of many volunteer programs but it was under the StreetKids Program that we got closer, not only as volunteers but as bosom buddies as well. We were never blockmates for we never took the same course; I took up Development Studies (pre-law) while she took up Area Studies. Outside Pahinungod, our friendship grew. In between subject breaks and hook-ups at our 'tambayan' with other volts, we found out that we were almost alike in a lot of ways. Even our drama in our personal lives were the same. Hehehe.

Oh, you know what it is like when you see someone you haven't seen for a long, long time. It was an endless chatter and laughter. We talked about the good, old days, family lives and obligations, work stuff, other responsibilities, lovelives (of course), future plans. It went on and on.

It was quick but very worth it.

A thought came to me that sometimes, not seeing the people you value in life everyday is good. The lack of information about each other brings the best fun in the hook-ups.

Jeni, thanks for seeing me. =)

Papi has always been supportive and he knew that Jeni and I rarely met since we left the university. So while Jeni and I raved and ranted about each other's lives, he played bowling. He played two (2) games and got the following scores, 148 and 182. Not bad enough. Hehehe.

Thanks Papi. You're one cool guy. =)

____________________

After meeting Jeni, Papi and I headed to Baywalk to meet my old buddies from high school. As usual, they were late.

I suddenly felt a dislike in the dark, party-like ambiance of Baywalk. I told my boyfriend that we better head back to the mall and wait for them there.

When we arrived at the mall, I already saw
Uriah waiting at the steps alone.

We searched the mall where we could dine and wait for Levi. It was a toss between a cafe or a resto. My craving for pizza sealed the deal. We went to Shakey's.

It was past 8pm and my stomach was screaming for dinner already. We ordered pizza and platters of mojos (didn't I mention before I love potatoes?). While helping ourselves,
Levi arrived.

These two, Uriah and Levi are my bestest peers from high school. Actually, Levi and I go way back our kinder days. It was in elementary that we became forever pals together with other peers. Then, our so-called barkada grew bigger when we were in high school. That was when Uriah joined us.

Anyway, it was such a great time that our laughters and jokes could be heard by the other diners from the tables surrounding us. Levi was what you could call in Tagalog "walang kakupas-kupas." Translation: His funny persona was nowhere far from fading into the light from the time you knew him till now. Still deadly hilarious as ever. When you're with this guy (gay pala), you have to hold the edge of your seat the moment he opens that big mouth of his. Hehehe.

Uriah, on the other hand, is still the same talkative (like yours truly) girl back in high school. If you only see her and Levi punching each other, you will think that they share something "ehem." But no. Both of them are tied up with their own lovelives - Uriah with her man (I forgot his name because I have not met him yet) and Levi with his (or her) fafa.

So, who is that someone from high school who chased someone again with a broom? Hahaha.

After the pizza dinner, Levi invited us to play billiards somewhere in the Malate area. Papi and Levi played the stick together while Uriah and I sat in one of the stools and continued the chatter.

I only wished then that the rest of the group could have joined us - Dante, Frelud, Jocelyn, Ligi, Acerlene, Grace, Vanessa.

Heart's Day

by , in
Dear Me,

I wasn't born Catholic so I didn't celebrate Valentine's Day.

I just like the occasion due to the rousing fanfare it accompanies. One cannot deny the fact that this event has become over-rated and commercialized and yet, it brings a certain surge of emotions to anyone - whether single or attached.

Well, dear papi picked me up yesterday at the office with my chocolates. Hehehe. You just couldn't imagine the smile I had on my face. Chocolates are just one of the things on top of my list that can make my day.

Anyway, we were supposed to have dinner in one of the restos at Greenbelt but I suddenly felt that the surroundings there didn't match my mood. So I told papi that we could have dinner somewhere in Glorietta. I guessed we were both craving for a taste of baby back ribs so we ended up dining at Kenny Roger's Roasters. It had been a while since we dined there and I wasn't disappointed. I relished my tender baby back ribs with so much gusto. Mmm.

PS. I wonder if the flowers were delivered to him?

Playing Sudoku

by , in
Dear Me,

Lately, my hobbies are ranging from reading books, watching episode series via dvd to playing sudoku puzzles.

I am totally addicted.

Well, I came across this number puzzle way back 2000. My Japanese superior gave me this one piece of paper containing the sudoku puzzle. For years, I paid no attention to it because I have no idea how to do it.

My new mobile phone, a N6131, which was given to me as a holiday present by my papi had a sudoku game installed.

I came about it out of boredom. You know, bored in a long trip with nothing but my mobile phone switched on. I searched for something to do - text, take photos, call... Then, I decided to try the games installed and both games - snake & bomb - made the trip duller for me.

Sudoku saved the day.

From then on, I played every night as I board the shuttle back home from Makati. At least, it prevented me from oversleeping and from having to travel another 15 minutes just because I missed my stop. Hehehe.

Anyway, I am planning to buy a sudoku magazine since the game in my mobile phone only allows me to play for a while and not keep my scores. You see, the game is for 100 puzzles and I cannot finish that in just one sitting. Also, I have to sign out in the middle of a game if I am to take a message or call.

So, I am gonna buy one sudoku mag for myself. =)

Wondering what Sudoku is? Here.

What Am I Like?

by , in
Dear Me,

Quoted from
BBC's Science and Nature section, find out What Personality Am I Like for yourself.

- This test is 20 questions long and should take about 10 minutes.

- It is made up of four sets of five questions and you will find out about a different aspect of your personality after every five questions.

- At the end of the test, you will be assigned one of 16 possible personality types.

- This personality test can't tell you exactly what you are like. No survey can predict personality type with 100 % accuracy. Experts say we should use personality type descriptions to better understand ourselves and others, but shouldn't feel restricted by our results.

- The test was developed for the television programme 'What Am I Like? The Personality Test'.

- It is a simplified personality test based on personality type theory, devised by psychologists.

- It is not a replacement for the full Myers-Briggs Type Indicator questionnaire and the results are not intended to be the psychometric or practical equivalent to MBTI questionnaire results.

I took the test and for every set of 5 questions and true enough, it revealed something a little about me. Hehehe.

Set Categories:
1st set: Planner or Spontaneous?
2nd set: Facts or Ideas?
3rd set: Heads or Hearts?
4th set: Extrovert or Introvert?

Results:
1st set: I am Spontaneous, not a Planner.
(I am flexible and take life as it comes).

2nd set: I am more of a Facts person, less of an Ideas person.
(I am a practical person who remembers details from my surroundings).

3rd set: I use my Head more rather than my Heart.
(When making a decision, I tend to weigh the possible consequences in a logical, detached way).

4th set: I am an Extrovert person, not an Introvert.
(I tend to focus on and get my motivation from the world around me).

______________

Based on my answers regarding the four aspects suggest that my personality type is a
Go-Getter.

As a Go-Getter, the person is:
.. inventive, resourceful problem-solvers with a love of life.
.. can be tough-minded when necessary.
.. think of themselves as enthusiastic, determined and alert.
.. may become frustrated by rules and routines...
... of which I truly am.

Go-getters are active, flexible people who put a great deal of energy into life. This group prefers learning on the job to quiet study and willingly jumps into almost any situation. Others are attracted to the Go-getter's positive attitude and enthusiasm.

Go-getters find fun ways to tackle problems head-on and don't worry too much about rules. They are good at using logic to assess the situation and finding realistic solutions.

In situations where they can't use their talents or are unappreciated, Go-getters may reject all routines and put fun ahead of responsibilities. Under extreme stress, Go-getters may become overwhelmed by thinking of all the things that could possibly go wrong.

Go-getters may be liable to forget important dates such as a loved one's birthday.
I absolutely agree with this. When I truly want something, I deal with it head-on with a certain degree of passion and enthusiasm. I also prefer to utilize the rational, practical and logical approach to life in general. And when things still go wrong despite everything, I prefer to leave the problem/s for a while, forget it, have fun and be back facing the problem/s with a fresh perspective. Most of the time, it works giving me a new high. =)

And of course, I am guilty also about being forgetful of important dates. Hehehe.

The other 15 personality types are:
Big Thinker, Counsellors, Idealist, Innovator, Leader, Mastermind, Mentor, Nurturer, Peacemaker, Performer, Provider, Realist, Resolver, Strategist, Supervisor.

Farewell Jil & May

by , in
Dear Me,

It had been two (2) weeks since my officemates, Jil and May, resigned from the office. Honestly, the office atmosphere was never the same again without these two girls. They were like the cat and dog impersonated. If you didn't know them, you would think they were fighting when their paths crossed.

But nope, it was just their typical reaction with each other. They were like sisters, I guessed. Hehehe. Both girls could be such good companions when you want to shop and scour the tiangge for affordable 'kikay finds'. I know because I joined them twice or thrice.

I also enjoy the moments that we have conversations - whether it is about the bad things happening in the office, the ins-and-outs and the what-have-yous-&-what-ifs of love relationships, the future ahead of us and of course, the daily trashing we (or shall I say - I) gave to Kris Aquino & Pia Guanio. Hehehe. Yep, those were the good but not so old days.

With both of them gone, I may probably follow suit. Thinking about it, I have been wanting to leave way, way back. I was the first one to signify my intention. Unfortunately, a lot - TJ, Jho, Pam, Rose, Ria and lately, Jil & May - had left leaving me "to fend on my own". I only have one (1) ally left and I just hope I will be gone before she does. Hahaha.

Bad thing is I am on the verge of pushing my plans (forever plans - hehehe) for another month or two. One moment I am ready, the next, I am considering the idea of postponing it.

For those who know my plans, I am sure they will taunt me again for backing out. I am not really backing out. I am just trying to stretch my options. It is not so easy to decide just like that when you already have obligations not only for yourself but for others, too. I am not so young anymore and one mistake committed will not be that easy to rectify. Sometimes, one has to weigh the pros and cons of every serious decision one makes so as not to create heavy repercussions that will later on give one a big headache.

PS. For Jil & May, I wish you both goodluck and may you find what you are looking for. Keep in touch.

Aboard the Oregon, a state-of-the-art warship disguised as a rusty tramp steamer and manned by some of the world's finest ex-military and intelligence operatives, the men and women of the Oregon - "mercenaries with a conscience" - known collectively as the Corporation, offer their services to various countries and individuals with specialized security and military needs. The Corporation's chairman, Juan Cabrillo, has several pressing concerns: supply security for the emir of Qatar, who is attending a conference in Iceland; track down a nuclear bomb that has gone astray and pick up the aforementioned meteorite, which has just been found ensconced in a mysterious shrine. These jobs become dangerously complicated when industrialist Halifax Hickman, a man fueled by revenge and hatred, enters the picture. The meteorite, the atomic bomb and a vial of plague are to be used in attacks on holy sites - Israel's Dome of the Rock and Saudi Arabia's al-Haram mosque - and at an Elton John concert. Of Horoscopes, Tarots, Names

by , in
Dear Me,

I am not actually a believer of these things for I believe in two (2) things: it's is either I create my own destiny or/and the spiritual power intervenes in my behalf.

There are times that I really cannot help but read my stars every morning (since every morning I monitor the broadsheets at work). I usually smile at myself whenever my horoscope reveals something true, pleasant and positive. If it is negative, I shrug it off; if it is negative and about my lovelife, I throw a tantrum at my boyfriend. Hahaha.

As I said, I really do not take it to heart what my horoscope says. =)

Anyway, I'm doing away with the horoscope stuff. What really catches my fancy now is tarot & the Western card reading. Same as the horoscopes, I do not rely on what the card says about my life. Again, it is fun.

My Weekly Tarot
As it happens rather often, you'll have the impression that happiness is only something that can't be grasped. Open your eyes: human happiness does exist, and it's easy to be reached! Your natural charm and magnetism will be quite operative and will give you opportunities to make very pleasant encounters. Relations with foreign countries will prove complicated, consisting of disputes, endless discussions, ruptures of negotiations or contracts; one could only recommend you to show much diplomacy and patience.

My Weekly Card
You'll be strongly tempted to conquer hearts and you'll have many successes. You'll make important encounters which will allow you to exploit your hidden talents. A promotion of your career is probable. Beware of overwork and stress, which might cause a cardiac incident from which you could never recover completely.

Some friends may do harm to you. You'll keep the family reins firmly and you won't bear that one of your close relatives challenge your authority; however, if you adopt the soft way, you'll get much better results.

My Name
Your first name is marked with the sense of reality, efficiency, perseverance, and stakes its happiness on tranquility. Indeed, it's vital for you to be assured of what can shelter you from want — be it a garden to cultivate, a job that provides your daily bread, or a larger enterprise to which you'll devote yourself. You almost always yearn for a possession which permits you to be relatively sure of the morrow. In order to reach your objectives, you don't dream but you reveal yourself a tireless worker. You resemble a plow ox, which is peaceful, slow, stuck in its habits, but capable of displaying considerable force and accomplishing a useful task patiently.

You feel all deprivation very acutely. Any diminution — be it a physical limitation, a loss of activity, or the absence of a dear one — is a dispossession for you. It's why people sometimes denounce your kind selfishness, your avidity which, once brought to the extreme, may give birth to tendencies to cornering.

Stubbornness, which is one of your main characteristics, precludes all possibility of compromise. It's particularly difficult, almost impossible, for you to go back on a decision, to modify your opinion or your sentiments. As a result, there may be great moral sufferings and long-lasting disagreements which will affect you in the first place.

Your courage and patience are legendary. They constitute your force, allowing you to always relentlessly fight all odds in order to reach your objectives. But they can also be a cause of your doom for you'd prefer persisting in your error to changing your mind.

It would be erroneous to see in you only this aspect which is calm, balanced, and little prone to emotions. If circumstances demand it, you can perfectly get into the arena and fight gallantly for your success, your profit. When you break out, it's a formidable big cat that one faces. One should never underestimate your force of reaction. It's true that you seem to take time to be moved, but all facts will have been registered and all wrongs strongly felt. And when some kind of level is reached, the poison of anger gushes out powerfully in your soul, thus making you trample even what was the dearest to you. But you'll improve with age since it takes you time to become conscious of yourself and to evolve.

Your existence is centered on an immense love for life and on its pleasures. Your sensuality is therefore very well developed, but this sensuality is wholesome and very close to nature. You know how to savor the pleasure that comes from the satisfactions of the senses. In trying to better extract the joy included in each moment of life, you give precedence to gourmandise and enjoyment.

Wanna know yours? Maybe this site can help you.

Phishing

by , in
Dear Me,

I am one of those people who are paranoid about other people deliberately snooping on my personal details. It is a known fact how our personal information can be used against us. I have heard a lot of scary things that happened and can happen if those vital information will get into the wrongs hands.

But then, it cannot be denied how convenient online banking is. I, myself, have jumped to the bandwagon. It is easier to deal with and facilitates your financial transactions - your supposed errands.

Anyway, I am sharing the following information (courtesy of BPI Express Online) though I have it revised for general connotation.

Phishing e-mails are sent to trick you into revealing personal and financial information. Don't be a victim.

We suggest that you use this short checklist to protect yourself against phishing attacks.

  1. Begin your session by manually typing the web address of your bank into your browser.

  2. Avoid disclosing personal or account details via email or embedded link. Be skeptical of unsolicited e-mails, especially those that concern personal/account information. Delete suspicious emails or email attachments without opening them, even if they seem to have originated from someone you know.

  3. Notify the sending company if you receive a suspicious email. Contact your bank directly.

  4. Check the security certificate of the web page. Before entering personal or account information into a site, make sure it is secure. In Internet Explorer, you can do this by checking the yellow lock on the status bar. A closed lock is an indication of an encrypted site.

If you think you may have responded to a suspicious email, change your password online as soon as possible.
Be cautious enough to protect yourself so you can prevent getting involved in something you don't want to happen.
