Night Trek At Mt. Talamitam

by , in
Dear Me,

I was cleaning my yahoo inbox and I saw this email from
Jherry. It was about our climb in Mt. Talamitam in 2004. I had read this a hundred times before but everytime, it sent me down to the floor and laughing my ass off. I dare not read this at the office again or my superior will wonder what the hell is wrong with me.

Here is Jherry's email:

Hayyy what a climb we had...

Dami kong gusting pasalamatan bcoz of a wonderful xperience..

Sabi nga ni lola chummy (naku iba na meaning ng name na ito) iba pa rin daw pag yung magkakasama ay nakaka interact ng "totoo" sa isat-isa dahil close (daw oh), at from lolo dex na since we know each other that well (daw uli oh), we can predict each other moves and yung mga (bastos) nating pagiisip alam na agad even before sabihin.

We knew the the very start na delikado yung akyat since alang kasama na nakakaalam nung trail.

Hehehe. With you and syempre si jenard at kahit yung mga hindi natin kasamang boys and girls of atmc.

napatunayan ko uli na pag nagsamasama yung mga utak nating pulpul kahit magulo nagiging masaya at the end of the day..

si carmi pa pala.. hehehe. May first time din kami pero d ko na sasabihin.. bahala kayo magisip... (hindi na ako virgin) shhhhhhh. And tnxs for being with me in such a short notice. Txt ko sya around 2pm nung friday na sumama. I don't know if it's the climb or its just me. Ayun nagkaroon ako ng dahilan sa tatay ko hehehe. Eskapo.

But still the big question is.. bakit ba talaga naging masaya yung climb?

Siret na..hehehe..well yung ating 10 seconds no mater sino ang matulak sa unahan o kahit ganu katirik na kayat, kadilim st maingay na run for life or I must say save urself moment sa putragis na................................... KALABAW.

Its worth every moment with you guys talamat po.

gud day.

don't mind yung mga maling speling hehehe.

Keys To My Heart (daw)

by , in
Dear Me,

While waiting for some climb photos to upload, I decided to do this for fun less I'll get bored and decide to abort it. Well, I cannot wait for Dex to give me the copies (that's how impatient I am... hehehe) so I initiated saving them from his website. You see, all the photos and files that were saved and organized (painstakingly) in my computer were all gone due to some unexplainable reasons. Fortunately, it did not bother me that much. If my controlling-freak attitude still persisted, I knew that I was bound to raise hell with Dex. Hehehe.

Back to my original story, let me post this.

The Keys to Your Heart

You are attracted to those who are unbridled, untrammeled, and free.

In love, you feel the most alive when your lover is creative and never lets you feel bored.

You'd like your lover to think that you are optimistic and happy.

You would be forced to break up with someone who was insecure and in constant need of reassurance.

Your ideal relationship is open. Both of you can talk about everything... no secrets.

Your risk of cheating is 100%. You are not suited for a monogamous relationship.

You think of marriage as something that will confine you. You are afraid of marriage.

In this moment, you think of love as something you don't need. You just feel like flirting around and playing right now.

The Keys To My Heart? If I am still the same girl 3 years ago, I will say that everything what is stated above stand true of my real persona. Let me make some comments per box.
  • what does the word "untrammeled" means? Can anybody answer that?
  • Yes, it is absolutely true that when I am in a relationship, I hate to do the usual stuff usual lovers do. I hate monotony in everything. It is not enough that we go out and watch movie and have popcorn. I prefer out-of-town trips, explore new places, engage in other sporty stuff, etc.
  • Of course. But if there is no basis for me to be happy, I will let him know because I will surely get bored if this becomes a habit; that will lead to bye-bye.
  • Not that fast but if he is so insecure all throughout and there is nothing I can do despite reassuring him, I think there is nothing to look forward to.
  • I think every couple in a relationship aspires for the ideal relationship. I would like mine to be open but sometimes, fear hinders me to say things out loud.
  • My goodness! Hehehe. I am at risk of 100% two-timing, 3-timing? Wowowee. *lolz* I think 3 years ago, this may have been true, not that I am a playgirl or anything. With my papi, I am 110% FAITHFUL (except if Richard Gere, Andy Garcia, Brad Pitt, Christian Bautista, Kiefer Sutherland are within sight...*rotfl*)
  • Marriage is a confinement? 3 years ago, I am pessimistic of the idea of married life. In fact, my idea of entertaining the thought of having a family life would be at the age of 30 or past it. I see my career and personal pursuits as my main goal in life. But now, I really want to have one for myself...soon. (*hindi kita minamadali noh....Hehehe*)
  • I am not a playgirl, really. To contradict this, I am happy to say that I am really, terribly, madly in love right now. Super.

Another Friendly Tag

by , in
Dear Me,

Currently (actually, since Monday), I am here at Dusit Hotel Nikko - attending to a technical seminar. While waiting for my lunch to be served (I did not join them at the Drum & Bass bar) here inside the function room, I thought of answering
Carol's tag.

  • ARE YOU OVER 18? ---> Yes, late 20s as a matter of fact.

  • WHAT IS THE WALLPAPER ON YOURCELLPHONE? ---> In my N3650, I have Stitch; the other low-grade Nokia mobile, I have none.

  • DID YOU GET ENOUGH SLEEP LAST NIGHT? ---> Not actually. I slept early (like 12mn) but I still feel a little sleepy.

  • FIRST THING YOU THOUGHT ABOUT THIS MORNING WHEN YOU WOKE UP? ---> Can I stil grab a few minutes of sleep? =)

  • WHAT DO YOU HAVE HANDY AT YOUR BEDSIDE? ---> My mobile phone, alarm clock and a good book.

  • EVER TRIED TO SKIP MEAL? ---> A lot of times, yes.

  • GRILLED OR FRIED? ---> Fried, I think.

  • WHAT MAKES YOU UNIQUE? ---> I don't think there's anything unique about me; but one weird thing is that I laugh and cry while watching a movie at the cinema alone.

  • ARE YOU AFRAID OF THE DARK? ---> Not really but lurking robbers give me the terrifying goosebumps.

  • FAVORITE HANGOUT? ---> BOOKSTORES!

  • 3 THINGS YOU CAN'T LIVE WITHOUT? ---> Materially? (1) My contact lens, (2) paper & pen (if can be considered as 1), (3) books.

  • FIRST THING YOU WILL BUY IF GIVEN 1THOUSAND DOLLARS? ---> Books! And probably give my mom 20 thousand pesos. I don't know why but I just want to give her something. =)

  • FAVORITE SONG WHEN YOU'RE SLEEPY? ---> A comforting but not so mushy love song.

  • WHAT ARE YOU AFRAID OF? ---> I am mighty scared of being a nobody to myself. It doesn't matter if I am nobody to anybody so long as I am doing something about myself.

  • ARE YOU A GIVER OR TAKER? ---> Seriously thinking about it, I have been unappreciative and stingy for quite a while due to conflicting financial obligations.

  • WHAT ARE YOUR NICKNAMES? ---> Yves, Fran, Franny, Franning (hehehe), Ivan, Bing

  • WHAT IS YOUR DAD'S MIDDLE NAME? ---> Reyes

  • WHAT IS YOUR MOM"S MAIDEN MIDDLE NAME? ---> Since it will have a bearing to my personal details & security, I won't divulge it.

  • IF YOU WERE INVISIBLE FOR A DAY, WHAT WOULD YOU DO? ---> Have fun in FRANCE!

  • STUCK ON A DESERTED ISLAND & COULD HAVE ONLY ONE KIND OF FOOD FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE, WHAT WOULD IT BE? ---> Pork sinigang with lotsa leafy veggies (if too much cholesterol won't kill me, that is).

  • FAVORITE T.V. COMMERCIAL? ---> Any Mentos commercial (life is a bliss so why complicate it!)

  • IF YOU'LL DIE TOMORROW, WHAT WILL YOU DO? ---> Stare at the faces of people close to my heart and commit them to memory forever where forever will take me. *sniff*

  • FIRST THING YOU'LL SAVE IN A FIRE: ---> My family if they are stuck somewhere...

  • YOUR EYE COLOR? ---> Black.

  • WHAT ARE THE THINGS YOU ALWAYS BRING? ---> Press or loose powder, house keys, my planner, mobile phone and money. I think that sum it all.

  • WHAT DID YOU WANNA BE WHEN YOU WERE A KID? ---> Oh, the common dreams of the young - being a doctor or a nurse. Father's clan thrive in the medical field and everyone was expected to follow suit.

  • WHAT DO YOU USUALLY DO WHEN THE CLOCK STRIKES 7 AM? ---> Buzz and rush out of the house, be on my way to the office.

  • THE COLOR OF YOUR BEDSHEET? ---> I already removed my king-sized bed out of my small room.

  • WHO DO YOU WANT TO MEET? ---> Adolf Hitler, Confucius, Ramon Magsaysay.

  • HOW'S LIFE TODAY? ---> Life today makes me wonder where my life will be heading in the next few months and what of it next year.

BOOKS, BOOKS, BOOKS!

by , in
Dear Me,

I am such a book freak. I love to read anything that catches my fancy and the mood I am in. Despite still having a line-up of books to read (which I had already bought eons ago), I still buy...nonstop. I recently bought the following:

  • NOBLE HOUSE by James Clavell

  • MURDER AT THE KENNEDY CENTER by Margaret Truman

  • WIFEY by Judy Blume

  • THE GOD OF SMALL THINGS by Arundhati Roy

  • UNDER THE DUVET by Marian Keyes

  • THE NOT-SO-PERFECT MAN by Valerie Frankel

  • ALONG CAME A SPIDER by James Patterson

Last Tuesday while waiting for bf to show up, I found myself buying another Mario Puzo book. I just could not recall which one I bought from these three: Fools Die, The Sicilian or The Last Don. Hehehe.

Right now, I am finishing James Patterson's book.

Small Things Can Make It Better

by , in

Dear Me,

This is a great read and maybe we can somehow apply some of these to make our lives a little better.

Twelve (12) Little Things Every Filipino Can Do To Help Our Country

"THERE'S a booklet making the rounds in Metro Manila that every Filipino who loves his country should get hold of and read, and hopefully put the points it raises into practice, in order to help our nation."

"Twelve (12) Little Things Every Filipino Can Do To Help Our Country," by Alexander Ledesma Lacson, may be a "voice in the wilderness"; but as Fr. Ruben Tanseco, S.J. puts it, what Alex proposes are "very concrete, practical and doable" actions for us ordinary Filipinos.

A simple enumeration of these "twelve little things" will not do justice to the work of Alex. You've got to read the whole text, but I shall try to compress a few lines for some of the items mentioned.

  1. Follow traffic rules - Why is that the most important? The answer is simple. Traffic rules are the simplest of our laws. If we learn to follow them, it will be the lowest form of national discipline that we can develop. Since it is totally without monetary cost, it should be easy for us to comply with, and therefore should provide a good start.

  2. Whenever you buy or pay for anything, always ask for an official receipt. - If a seller does not issue an official receipt when you buy a product, the seller may or may not remit the tax to the government. Without an O.R., there is no record of the sale transaction, and the tax that you paid may not be remitted to the Bureau of Internal Revenue.

  3. Do not buy smuggled goods. Buy local, buy Filipino. - It may not be good economics to buy 100 percent local products. What I suggest is for us to take a "50-50" buying attitude. This means that we must develop the attitude of using 50 percent of our budget for local products and the other 50 percent for imported choices.

  4. When you talk to others, especially foreigners, speak positively of our race and our country - this is best addressed to the rich and the middle class in our country, who have contact with the outside world. It is they who talk to, dine or deal with foreigners either here or abroad. It is what they say and do which creates impressions about us among foreigners.

  5. Respect your traffic officer, policeman, soldier and other public servants - There is nothing like the power of respect. It makes a person proud. It makes one feel honorable. At the same time, courtesy to others is good manners. It is class and elegance and kindness. It is seeing the value and dignity in the other man. It is, in fact, a mark of a most profound education.

  6. Do not litter. Dispose your garbage properly. Segregate. Recycle. Conserve. - As Louis Armstrong says in his song: "I see trees of green, red roses, too, I see them bloom for me and you and I think to myself, what a wonderful world."

  7. Support your church. (or charitable/ civic organizations - :-)

  8. During elections, do your solemn duty. - Honesty, more than a masteral or doctorate degree, is what gives credibility. And credibility is essential because it is a leader's link to the people. It is what makes the people look to one direction, follow a common vision, and perform a uniform act. In short, credibility is what makes people follow the leader.

  9. Pay your employees well. - No exercise is better for the human heart than to reach down and lift someone else up. This truly defines a successful life. For success is the sum, not of our earthly possessions, but of how many times we have shown love and kindness to others.

  10. Pay your taxes. - In 2003, P83 billion was collected from individual income taxes. But 91 percent of this amount came from salaried workers from the government and private sector, people who had no choice since their income taxes were withheld mandatorily. Only P7 billion of the P83 billion came from businessmen and professionals like doctors, lawyers, accountants and architects, among others.

  11. Adopt a scholar or adopt a poor child. - You can make a difference in the future of our country by making a difference in the world of children.

  12. Be a good parent. Teach your kids to follow the law and to love our country. - Today's children will someday rule and lead this world. But whether they will be bad rulers or good leaders will depend largely on how we raise them today. Our future is in the hearts and minds of our children.

He Laughed At Me, I Laughed At Myself

by , in
Dear Me,

I was discussing with my superior regarding details of our upcoming projects when my mobile phone vibrated. I ignored it so as not to appear boorish. *talk*talk*talk* Then my landline phone rang and my superior decided to excuse himself. Before lifting the receiver, I read an SMS asking for my yahoo email. I lifted the receiver and there, I was talking to the sender of the SMS.

I gave him my email addy and asked me right away to read it. Curious what it was, I asked for the smallest clue. The guy just told me to open and read it. So, I read it.

Ok, so the joke was on me. Hehehe.
Jon Magat sent this to me as I had sent it to him a long, long time ago.

Pinay At The White House

by , in
As a Filipina, this is something to brag about and be proud of.

White House Gets First Woman Executive Chef
Sun - Aug 14, 4:32 PM ET
Source: Yahoo

CRAWFORD, United States (AFP) - A Filipina-American, Cristeta Comerford, became the first woman executive chef at the White House, six months after First Lady Laura Bush reportedly forced out the last organiser of the president's state dinners.

The first lady announced her choice of replacement in a White House statement.

"I am delighted that Cris Comerford has accepted the position of White House executive chef," Bush said.

"Her passion for cooking can be tasted in every bite of her delicious creations."

The key White House post has been vacant since March when Walter Scheib left after 11 years as executive chef. According to the US media, Scheib could not adapt to the culinary demands of the Texan first lady.

The announcement was made after the New York Times printed an article Sunday telling how Laura Bush asked Scheib "to pick up his knives and leave" and the prolonged wait while chefs are interviewed and asked to make test meals.

-------------

President George W. Bush started his second four-year term at the White House in January.

Comerford, 41, had been one of Scheib's two assistants in the White House kitchen since 1995. Her specialty has been "ethnic and American cuisine," according to a White House statement.

Now a naturalized American, Comerford studied for a degree in Food Technology at the University of the Philippines and then gained experience serving as a chef tournant at Le Ciel restaurant in Vienna.

She had also worked at the top Washington hotels, the "Grand Bistrot" and "La Colonnade".

Comerford prepared the menu for the White House dinner in honor of Philippine President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo in 2003 and this year for India's Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

The menu included chilled asparagus soup, pan-roasted halibut with ginger-carrot butter, basmati rice with pistachios and currants, and herbed summer vegetables.

Comerford's duties are to design and carry out menus for state dinners, social events, holiday functions, receptions and official luncheons. Her official salary is between 80,000 and 100,000 dollars a year.

But the presidential couple are not known for the frequency of their official dinners. There were only four during the first term from 2001-2004 and only one so far in the second term, for the Indian leader.

-------------

Ronald Reagan held 50 official dinners during his eight years at the White House.

George W. Bush is not a known gastronome. Obsessed by his fitness, Bush eats only light meals.

His wife takes a lot more interest.

"Mrs. Bush has said she wants someone who cooks American food but also someone who can make a mean enchilada as well as the more complex interior Mexican food that she prefers," said the New York Times.

"And the chef had better know how to make the president's favorite cheeseburgers," it added.

"Plenty of chefs were interviewed, with only a few asked to cook for the Bushes," according to the New York Times.

Comerford had been a favourite with Chris Ward, chef at the Mercury Grill, a restaurant at Dallas in the Bush's home state.

One top Washington chef, Eric Ziebold, had been approached, according to media reports. But the Times quoted him as saying that the White House job was "not a good career move".

Richard Hamilton, another reported candidate, said that whoever was chosen "may not be the best chef they can possibly find," but "the one with whom they are most comfortable."

Blog Extension @ Multiply

by , in
Dear Me,

I used to have a
Multiply account while it was having its initial launch in Asia. After some time, I decided to delete that account for security reasons. *secret* Well, it was only recently that I made a new account for the purpose of having an online list of the books I was planning to dispose. So I thought that that was it.

I just discovered the nice features that Multiply offers. It is user-friendly and sort of organized in a sense. You can have everything in one site.

In fact, I decided to utilize the category-like features. I am actually enjoying what I am doing there. Hehehe.

This is my secondary journal ---->
http://ivanulrich.multiply.com/journal.

This is my online photo gallery aside from Imagestation ---->http://ivanulrich.multiply.com/photos. The photos that will be posted here are from the previous years till 2004. Imagestation will carry my captured escapades from 2005 onwards.

This is my online book list ---->
http://ivanulrich.multiply.com/market. I need space in my small room so I have to dispose some of the books I have collected over the years.

This is my kitchen ---->
http://ivanulrich.multiply.com/recipes">. I am building this site for my own. This will be my online cookbook of various easy-to-cook recipes which given the time, I will slave myself in the kitchen. That will be such a treat!

2 Questions & Couple Of Answers

by , in
Dear Me,

I almost spent the entire day yesterday hopping from one sensible blog to another. It was really cool to hop in to blogs you have not visited before and finding then to be worth your time.

Anyway, I was reading through
Ymir's Hallowed Ground blog and I got the urge to answer these 2 questions for myself.

What are the things you enjoy, even when no one around you wants to go out and play?
  1. reading an interesting book will keep me in one of the nooks in the house
  2. cleaning the house, especially tidying up my small room will give me great satisfaction to be at home
  3. watching 24, Without A Trace, CSI Miami while devouring pizza is a sure-fire of making me feel homey
  4. blogging & surfing is such an enjoyable pastime
  5. watching a movie alone at the cinema is an old habit of mine which is hard to kick
  6. composing a poem relating to a memorable experience or deep sadness

What lowers your stress/blood pressure/anxiety level? Make a list, post it in your journal.
  1. listening to my favorite songs - basically radio music soothes me
  2. munching a bar of any of my favorite chocolate calms my anxious nerves
  3. going to the bookstore and buying a couple of books will surely bring my tensed mind and body to a tranquil state
  4. shopping, especially for BAGS - fires up my frantic mood to a different level of excited tension
  5. writing the emotional wreak on paper
  6. escape to Baguio and forget the tensions back here
  7. bringing some work at home nad be oblivious of anything
  8. sweating it out in the gym

Nobody tagged me but I would like to tag these people if they have not done this yet --------->
Sally Mae, Willa, Dow, Jary, Monicai. Hope they will have time to have one like this in their journals.

Escape To Baguio

by , in
Dear Me,

I miss dear, old Baguio. That cold place has been my hideaway sanctuary from the hustle and bustle of everyday living here in Manila. Despite the shortened visits, I feel rejuvenated each time I come back here to face the next day of pollution and stress. It has been almost 5 years since I started this habit of disappearing from the metropolis during weekends. The nature of my work has brought me places and usually commands a very active, agile body with a strong resistance to boot. My physical stamina is strong enough to cope up with the exhausting demands of my job. It is my pyschological (the mental and emotional) aspect that is driving my spirit restless.

For the first 3 years, I went alone, solo. I preferred it that way. It felt wonderful to be alone, doing your own thing, biding your own time. It was great to discover an adventure for myself. I even made some good friends there.

One time, I also spent my weekend in Baguio (last December 2002) with my close friends from PEx - Jon, LA & Mariel. Yeah, just the 3 of us. Jary, Kerwin, Jheng and Paul were pretty tied up that time so we went ahead. It was fun. I really miss those times!

When I met my boyfriend Dex, I brought him to Baguio as well. Hehehe. He was like a child, enjoying his time there. We had so much fun then. Whenever I go to Baguio, I always request him to come. Hmm. For a while, I think it was fine with him but I guess there was a time that I felt like he was sort of giving in just to go with me. I guess nagsawa yata siya because it has always been Baguio. But of course, except for money and the weather, nothing can stop me from going there. Hehehe. Well, he always comes along whether I invite him or not. The perks of having a boyfriend who does not want to leave me all alone. Hehehe.

These are SOME of my FAVORITE photos taken during the Panagbenga 2005. I was supposed to post this as thumbnail-cum-image links but they are not working. To view the rest of the photos, click

Qualities Of A Guy

by , in
PEx posted this question: If you were to place an ad in perfectmatch.com, what qualities MUST your potential date have? Also, what qualities CAN'T he/she have?"

I browsed the replies of the other posters. As usual, I saw common answers to the question which were mostly serious ones. I decided to post my own albeit in a funny tone. I was thinking of my dear bf while answering this. So let me copy and paste my answer there to here.

If ever na sobrang, sobrang desperate ako na magka-PAPA, sige may-I-post akech ng ad sa perfectmatch.com.

+ Qualities I Demand:
  1. must have the ability to make faces in a funny way, para lagi akong matatawa;
  2. dapat kahit average o malaki mata niya, kapag natawa siya eh nawawala yung mata niya;
  3. dapat din na papayagan niya akong pisilin ang pisngi niya kasi nanggigigil ako pag natutuwa o nae-excite;
  4. mahilig ako mag-shopping ng mga iba't ibang klaseng bag (kikay man o hindi), so dapat ok lang kapag siya ginagawa kong modelo;
  5. kahit di ko ugali ang ipabitbit ang bag ko, dapat ok lang sa kanya pag feel ko ipadala sa kanya ang mga kikay kong mga bag;
  6. dapat pag nagkikita kami o maghihiwalay, DAPAT may tight hug ako at kiss sa gitna ng forehead, as in GITNA ng forehead kasi nagtatampo ako pag di nasa gitna;
  7. dapat strong siya pero yung hands niya - dapat magaling siyang magmasahe ng batok at kamay ko;
  8. dapat gentleman siya

- Qualities that I *somehow* CANNOT stand
  1. ang laging late - sa pagpasok sa work, sa mga social meetings, sa schedule ng mga climbs at minsan, sa pagsundo o pag-meet sa akin;
  2. ang pagiging slow - sa pag-intindi ng gusto kong sabihin o ng feelings ko. Madalas kasi nakakahiya na direchahin ang lalaki lalo na kung emotions ang pinag-uusapan. Pero sabi nila normal daw yun because men are dumb...(?!)

yan ang ilalagay ko sa ad. Hehehe.

*pero siempre nakita ko na yan kay Papi ko*

Missing Schedules, Getting On Track

by , in
Dear Me,

What is wrong with me? I am having this bad habit of passing up marked plans and schedules. Bad habit because it may lead again to a bad attitude. As what has been said since time immemorial, "big things start from small ones." So if I start missing out social skeds (it does not matter if it involves meeting friends as long as I have made a commitment to see them), I will feel later on like taking emergency leaves because the idea of staying home, away from work is more powerful than anything. Based on my experience, I tend to make tons of credible excuses just to reason out my absence to anyone. My bad!

So far, what did I miss?

  • meeting a 'balikbayan' friend and having coffee;
  • joining a sports-climbing crash course;
  • attending church services;
  • taking part in a *club get-together;
  • participating in a volunteer orientation.

It took me a week of convincing myself that nothing good will come out of my life if I continue to dwell on this kind of lazy act. I visualized the effect of this soon-to-be attitude and it got me on my feet. Believe me when I say it did work. Hehehe.

So, I found myself attending the BMC during the last weekend of July.

Papi & His Papa

Dear Me,

Papi Dex went to his hometown in Cebu last July. He stayed there more than a week to spend more quality time with his dad and 3 sisters. As much as I knew that I would miss him, I let him go because it is his family. If I am not mistaken, it has been more than a year since he went home.

Anyway, here is a photo of him and his dad. Hmm. He really likes to wear those eyeglasses. Hehehe.
