The World Around Me

by , in
Dear Me,

I have been trying to keep up with the world. Ever since I jumped out of the corporate world, I had been neglectful of my surroundings and the events that keep altering human history.

While at it, I:

  • was shocked to learn that New Orleans in the US would be struck harder than Hurricane Katrina since three (3) years ago. According to Mayor Nagin, Hurricane Gustav is the "mother of all storms." New Orleans city officials had issued a mandatory evacuation procedures on Saturday to its residents for fear of life-threatening situations.

  • pray that the Thai government will soon find a way out of its political turmoil. Accused of corruption and of rallying the return of the ousted Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, elected Premier Samak Sundaravej is firm on his stand not to resign despite the countless siege of protesters and demonstrators.

  • felt pity over the tragedy that has befallen the poor people in Northern India. A dam that broke down in Nepal had greatly contributed to the floods that have severely affected millions of farmers, their families, homes and livelihood. According to the report, the possibility of returning to their homes is nil. This is the worst floods that happened in the area in fifty (50) years.

  • recalled my Political Science professor back in UP while trying to relate the comments aired by Vladimir Putin, Russia's Prime Minister, about the manipulative maneuvers of the Georgia conflict by the USA. This university professor lectured us back then that the US have created political plots in other countries to benefit their government.

PS. So what things/events have been happening around you or in your country? Care to share?

    Tweaking

    by , in
    Dear Me,

Okay. I hear ye. I've been looking for a much simpler and easier template to tweak with. I just need a plain one.

I'm back to this old template I had used before.

I'm also updating everything in my sidebar (soon): organizing, de-congesting.

PS. I sort of lost some blogger links. If you wanna exchange link love, feel free to comment here and I'll add your blogs later.

    Ciao.

    My Blog Is All About...

    by , in
    Dear Me,

    I'm checking out
Wordle. I've been seeing this fantabulous 'word clouds' as generated by this site. The words that have been used frequently in a certain site/link will make up one's word cloud.

I 'wordled' this site and here's what I got:

If you don't have a blog or site of your own, you can also type in a bunch of words and see what you've got.

Once you've generated your own 'word cloud,' you can tune it to your own liking. You can modify the fonts, color appearance and the lay-out, too.

You also have the option to include your own word cloud in their gallery and share it with the others.

PS. I want to have a colored hard copy so I further tweaked mine by personalizing it.

    Feel like sharing yours? :)

    Tarot Cards

    by , in
    Dear Me,

I never really believe in these things. Honestly, it's sheer curiosity. I remember an online buddy from a writing group who volunteered to do a tarot reading for me. Unfortunately, we never got around to doing it.

Sometimes, I even felt the urge to do a reading when I saw this shop in SM Megamall offering a paid reading.

Anyway, I'm snagging this one from
    Jovee.

    You are The Lovers

Motive, power, and action, arising from Inspiration and Impulse.

The Lovers represents intuition and inspiration. Very often a choice needs to be made.

Originally, this card was called just LOVE. And that's actually more apt than "Lovers." Love follows in this sequence of growth and maturity. And, coming after the Emperor, who is about control, it is a radical change in perspective. LOVE is a force that makes you choose and decide for reasons you often can't understand; it makes you surrender control to a higher power. And that is what this card is all about. Finding something or someone who is so much a part of yourself, so perfectly attuned to you and you to them, that you cannot, dare not resist. This card indicates that the you have or will come across a person, career, challenge or thing that you will fall in love with. You will know instinctively that you must have this, even if it means diverging from your chosen path. No matter the difficulties, without it you will never be complete.

    What Tarot Card are You?
Take the Test to Find Out.

I searched about The Lovers and found out that it belongs to the Major Arcana.

    The Lovers

The Lovers stand in front of two trees. One tree bears 12 flames for the 12 signs of the Zodiac. The other is the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil, complete with Serpent. This tree bears 5 fruits representing the 5 senses. The man representing the conscious mind, gazes at the woman, representing the subconcious mind. The woman in turn looks up at the Archangel blessing their union. The Archangel represents god consciousness, the higher self in all of us.

Drawing the Lovers almost always means a choice will have to be made. This choice is usually of the variety that is between doing what "makes sense" and following your heart. The answer to this dilemma involves surrendering to God. Don't be surprised if your well-laid plans are suddenly subject to change. The Lovers remind us that we cannot attain our full potential with our conscious, rational mind alone. We must marry it to our subconscious, representing our emotions and intuition.

I sort of tried this by asking something and this is what I got:

The Relationship spread provides insight into the interaction between two people or entities. It is the spread of choice for questions about partnerships, be they in romance or business. The Palladini Tarot was created to "bridge the ancient and the future", using elements of Medieval, Egyptian and modern art. It is one of the most popular decks among new students of Tarot.

The significator, not shown is the card you have chosen to embody your presence and the focus of the reading. Queen of Pentacles: The essence of earth behaving as water, such as a hot spring: A warm and generous host, providing shelter and comfort for all who would seek it. A person steadfast, practical, and domestic, able to create opulence and stability in any setting. The qualities of maturity and sensibility, coupled with an innate appreciation for nature and the material world.

The card at the top left represents how you see yourself. Justice: The achievement of balance and inner harmony after a great trial. Agreements, contracts, or treaties concluded justly. Things set to rights. Karma restored. A turn for the better in legal matters.

The card at the top right represents how you see your partner. Six of Rods (Victory), when reversed: Arrogance and dangerous overconfidence as the result of a past success. Impudence and false pride in meaningless achievements. Fear of failure coupled with false hopes. Frustration over indefinite delays and motion without progress.

The card in the center left represents how you feel about your partner. The Tower: Unforeseen catastrophe. An abrupt change, perhaps leading to a new lifestyle and enlightenment. May indicate a broken relationship, divorce, or failure in business or career.

The card in the center right represents what stands between you and your partner. The Fool, when reversed: Apathy, negligence, and dangerous carelessness. Unquenchable wanderlust. Obsession with someone or something. Losing all sense of proportion. Foolhardy adventuring and lack of interest in critical matters. Immature or unrealistic ideals. Strange impulses and desires coming from unexpected sources. Vanity, delirium, folly, and oblivion.

The card in the lower left represents how your partner sees you. The High Priestess: A pure, exalted and gracious influence. Education, knowledge, wisdom, and esoteric teachings. The forces of nature. Intuition, foresight, and spiritual revelation of the most mysterious and arcane sort.

The card in the lower right represents what your partner feels about you. The Hanged Man: Pausing to reflect. Surrendering to an experience. Adjusting to new ideas through sacrifice. Opening oneself to intuition and enhanced awareness. Letting go of past patterns and growing beyond them. Inner peace, faith, and serenity.

The card in the center represents the present status or challenge of the relationship. King of Swords: The essence of air, such as a clear blue sky: A mature leader of unwavering ethics and indisputable authority. An incorruptible judge, whose devotion to the law cannot be swayed by emotion or material concerns. Perfect clarity of thought, directness of action, and eloquence of speech. One who, like a great general, inspires not love or devotion, but absolute trust and loyalty.

    All I can say...hmm.

    Free Fiction: The Bell Ringer

    by , in
    Dear Me,

It's been a while since I tried to read a short story online. I spent a few minutes to read
The Bell Ringer by John Burnside in The New Yorker.

It is sort of a gloomy tale to start with. The main character, Eva, was woven into a life of loneliness. She had just lost his father, felt estranged to his uncaring, dismissive husband and wound up about her sister-in-law's forbidden secret. Even the place where reminded her close to home was gone.

I think it is inherent nature for us, human beings, to find a way to escape away from the things that break our hearts and spirits - whether intentional or not. Like what happened to Eva. She got herself into a bell-ringing club. Although the story didn't tell much, I can tell that somehow her participation in the group had dissipate her sadness a little bit.

If asked, I would say that a church bell-ringer would be some old-fashioned spinster, too. Hehehe. Who wouldn't? I think everyone grew up with this kind of stereotyped notion.

    Paperback Chair

    by , in
    Dear Me,

It's good being creative. A lot of people would appreciate that but to do that to books - whether they are old, used or discarded ones - is seriously appalling (at least for me).

    Thankful For Three Things

    by , in
    Dear Me,

Being at home almost 24/7 has made me thankful for these three (3) beautiful things.

My Nokia 6131 mobile phone has been upgraded to my coveted choice of a PDA, the Sony Ericsson P1i. Thank you, my generous brother. :)

Instead of a desktop, I now have this fab Lenovo notebook. I am having a fantastic time doing all my stuff in the net. Thanks, papi dear!

For me, what's life without a steaming mug of coffee everyday? I miss sipping brewed coffee but this one will do just fine for now.

Care to share your three beautiful THINGS today? :)

    What Your Flavor?

    by , in
    Dear Me,

Looking back, I was never really an ice cream person. I am more of a cake person. But if we are going to talk about flavor, it's always a toss between chocolate and coffee. I love these two (2) flavors. No questions asked. :)

For fun, I took this mini-quiz. I got curious what's my mood at the moment.

    The result:

    You're Coffee.

Compared to other ice creams, coffee ice cream has a strong flavor, and it's packed with caffeinated sweetness. You're like that, too! You're always busy, and determined to stay focused as you move from one task to the next. You get frustrated when other people slow you down or hold you back, but when you're in control, you can find ways around any obstacle.

6% of the people who took this quiz got the same evaluation.

This quiz really hits me bull's eye!

PS. Hoping that the sun will soon peek out of the clouds. It has been raining cats and dogs here for the past few days.

It's time for that mug of hot coffee! Mmm.

    De-Cluttering

    by , in
    Dear Me,

I would like to think of myself as carefree, lenient and organized. I would love to live independent and free.

Speaking of being organized, mine doesn't border in the extreme (although I was told I always act on that side). I would love to see clutter but I loathe it when it's already becoming an eyesore and a mountain of trash.

In the house, I am 'allergic' in seeing unwanted and unnecessary stuff. Extra boxes, tin cans, cartons, plastic bags, old newspapers, old clothes, 'ancient' belongings - I would love to see them go.

Contemplating my many recent attempts, I discovered that:

    • dust, cobwebs, ants, mosquitoes, roaches, spiders, lizards are always present in this activity.

    • the 3R (Recycle, Re-use, Reduce) comes into play.

    • it takes a lot of time just to do the sorting, cleaning, piling, segregation of a lot of things you wanted out of the house.

    • it's hard to let go of some things that remind you about the past.

    • nothing gets thrown when your mother joins you in your de-cluttering project. Hehehe.

Anyway, I got pretty interested when I bumped into this blog called Decluttering Myself.

Clare, who owns the blog challenges herself "to dispose one item that she deemed unnecessary every day for one year."

She had set some rules such as:

    1. at least one object a day;

    2. should recycle wherever possible;

    3. before she acquires anything new, she has to throw something else away first (this excludes items such as food, paper, ink cartridges, pens, stamps and other consumables).

    4. shall continue for 356 days until June 15th, 2009.

    5. shall post weekly listing daily disposals.

Considering her rules, I may have to bent some of them. I will declutter:
    • one super tiny corner (it's really, really a small area) of the house everyday (as long as I can help it).

    • continuously practice 3R.

    • continuously de-clutter as long as I see unwanted mess in the house.

Tomorrow, I will start with this one:

Didn't I mention it will just be such a little nook in the house? :) I'm taking this one step at a time since taking care of my baby takes precedence over a lot of things. Taking into account the fact that I don't have any house help, I'm mostly preoccupied with baby care.

I hope to accomplish this task along with the other tasks.

What's your take about de-cluttering? Hope you can share your insights. :)

    Sunday Morning Musings

    by , in
    Dear Me,

I kinda woke up early today. I got up while both hubby and baby were dreaming in slumber land.

I was hoping for a sunny day but I could hear the soft tap-tap of the rain in the rooftop. I did some chores and fixed myself a mug of milk. Afterwards, I faced my laptop and checked my inboxes. I had a little chat with
    Jovee, too.

    Still,
Miguel and hubby were sleeping soundly.

While sipping my milk (I opted to drink milk instead of coffee because I was expecting my baby to breastfeed from me soon), the tapping of the rain grew louder. I could even hear the wind howling.

Well, it stopped for an hour.

Now, it's back again. This time, the wind and the rain are doing their rejoicing in tandem.

Some thoughts are going inside my head while I'm sitting here.

    • I ought to finish today's intended task.

    • I am really hoping that the weather will improve this afternoon so I can indulge myself in a book-buying spree in Diliman! I love books, just so you'll know. :)

    • Didn't I ever mention that I won two (2) tickets to the screening of the movie, The Alps?

    • Sometimes, it's too much wanting to surf other blogs. This hobby is so addicting especially if you want to read all of them. I can't keep track.

    • I have a secret to tell. As much as I love reading books, I haven't hopped in yet in the Stephanie Meyer craze. But I think my curiosity got piqued by this article in the New York Times. I'm gonna make sure to acquire all her books. :)

    • I've been seeing this widget on most blogs. It's called EntreCard. I wanted to read but I prefer that someone explain it to me. Can someone enlighten me with all the hype it's creating?

    • The recent news that a scientist named Bruce Ivins committed suicide as he was suspected in the 2001 anthrax attacks in the US reminded me of the tv series, 24. Follow-up articles here, here and here gave me goosebumps.

    • On another note, 24 is expected to air Season 7 by January 2009. That's too long...*sigh* I miss the riveting action and Jack Bauer , of course.

    Loving Violets & Bags

    by , in
    Dear Me,

I can't control myself from indulging into a whim when it's all about
BAGS and VIOLETS. I love them both aside from books. If it's something in the hues and shades of the color violet, whether it's a bag, blouse, dress, box, bead accessories, fancy stuff, I need to have it. Pronto.

A combination of my two (2) favorite things in the world is deadly. Hehehe.

I didn't think twice when I saw this violet bag. My sister, who was shopping with me for a formal wear told me that she saw the same bag somewhere and that it was a lot cheaper than the one I was ogling at.

I made excuses that the one she probably saw may either be already sold out or not the same quality I was holding then. She insisted, even trying to make me feel that I would soon regret buying it.

Well, I didn't. I mean, I still bought the big, violet bag and not regretted it.

    my current favorite bag

Aside from being violet, the bag is functional for me. Instead of sporting a diaper bag to stuff in Miguel's baby needs whenever we go out, I utilize this bag. I know it's big but it does look fashionable to me. :)

So tell me, do you love bags and what do you like about them? Or do you have a particular bag you really, really like? Do tell....:)

    PhotoHunt: Clouds

    by , in
    Dear Me,

I hope it won't rain hard today. I'm planning to spend the rest of the day out with the family. Aside from doing the typical weekend chores, there's a birthday party to attend to later in the afternoon.

And if it really won't be such a bad day today, I, together with the family will be going to a place where books abound. Yipee!

Today's theme is a favorite! I love looking at CLOUDS. Everytime I look at them, they bring a certain tranquil in my mind. They exude an aura of lightness inside and around me. I feel carefree, no worries at all (even just for a little while).

Most of the time, I see the beauty of clouds whenever I go mountainclimbing - either during between treks or resting already in the campsite. But I also view clouds whenever I'm in the beach.

All nine (9) photos below were taken during my last climb in
Mt. Apo in 2006. Located in Davao, this mountain is the highest peak in the Philippines.

    And my most favorite:

So, what about you? Do seeing clouds mean anything to you? Hope you'll share it with me. :)

    SkyWatch Friday

    by , in
    Dear Me,

It's my first time to join
SkyWatch Friday. It's fun seeing the sky as much as I love viewing the clouds. :)

    From the
    SkyWatch Friday's site:

After a hard day's toil, it's always a welcome relief to see the sky like this. It's the realization that the day has come to an end and you spent it well. A new day is coming and thankful that another day is added into your life. :)
