Celebrating My Birthday With Cookies & Cream

by , in
Dear Me,

I am not sure if this entry will make the deadline but just the same, I want to tell you how I spent my day. You see, it is my birthday today and we just got home from the mall an hour before the clock strikes twelve midnight.

Aside from celebrating my birthday, my younger brother just arrived from overseas. We went shopping and dined to our hearts' content. We were so full.

It is so rare these days that we all get together to share a meal or even have a small talk. I miss the old days when we can just holler and everybody will come around and join the fun. Simply, I just treasure the limited time we have. For me, it is a special bonding I want to commit forever in my memory. Being with my family for a simple dinner means a lot. No matter how busy we are, the family remains my top priority.

To cap the day, we took home
Red Ribbon's Cookies & Cream cake. I told them how much I love this cake. It's just so good and tasty for my taste - not too sweet nor too bland.

I think that no matter how old we get, we have to be thankful for the things we are blessed with. Life these days isn't so easy and I think we need to celebrate life's simple yet beautiful moments by being together and loving one another!

Sharing this lovely celebration of life:

Learning Toys

by , in
Dear Me,

Hubby volunteered to do the grocery at the mall's supermarket and came home with a boxful of goods plus toys from the kids' section.

The Busy Bead Activity Board and Bee n' Flower Maze introduce my little boy to fun learning. The concept of 3-dimensional play will help him to learn and explore varied play options.

I think these toys will also help in developing fine motor skills and recognize shape, color, size and spatial concepts in a very exciting way!

Little
Miguel will surely be amused sliding these shapely flowers, butterflies, bees and colorful beads to and fro, up and down.

Buying these educational toys for my little boy is a good call. :)

Win Freebies: Night at the Museum 2 Movie

by , in
Dear Me,

I was able to watch its prequel a few years ago. Although there were subplots that failed to hit its aim, I would still claim that the movie was reasonably amusing for a family movie.

Here comes the sequel, Night at the Museum 2: Battle of the Smithsonian. In this movie, Larry Daly (portrayed by Ben Stiller) is back as a night watchman. He becomes another caretaker at the Smithsonian, where Kahmunrah, an evil Pharaoh will come to life with the reestablishing of a tablet as a magical force in the museum bringing the old exhibits and new exhibits back to life and in conflict with each other.

Well, I haven't watch this movie yet. I'm looking forward to viewing it when things are a little bit manageable.

While am it,
Globe is giving away Night At The Museum tees and baseball caps!. Just log in to this site and answer the movie's trivia question to win these freebies.

You must be a registered member of the
Globe Community to be able to join this promo. You need to sign up if you are not a registered member.

I tried to sign up many times using my current mobile number but all I got was a "service temporarily unavailable" feedback. I figured that it only meant that my registration was never confirmed at all. I will just try again later.

This promo will run from May 22-28, 2009. Entries will be raffled and winners will be announced on June 5, 2009.

Angels & Demons Book Giveaway

by , in
Dear Me,

I have actually read all of
Dan Brown's book and this is another of my favorite. I am also looking forward to watching the movie version of this book, which is actually surprising considering I abhor books-turned-to-movies in general.

Anyway, if you haven't read it yet or you just want to own one, SM Cinemas is giving away 20 copies of the Dan Brown book, Angels & Demons.

Who plays the role of Robert Landon in the movie, Angels & Demons?

Simply answer that question and send an email to watcmarketing@smsupermalls.com together with your name, age, address and contact details with the subject: SM CINEMAS ANGELS & DEMONS PROMO.

This promo will run from May 1-22, 2009.

Book Synopsis:

Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon is shocked to find proof that the legendary secret society, the Illuminati-- dedicated since the time of Galileo to promoting the interests of science and condemning the blind faith of Catholicism--is alive, well, and murderously active. Brilliant physicist Leonardo Vetra has been murdered, his eyes plucked out, and the society's ancient symbol branded upon his chest. His final discovery, antimatter, the most powerful and dangerous energy source known to man, has disappeared--only to be hidden somewhere beneath Vatican City on the eve of the election of a new pope. Langdon and Vittoria, Vetra's daughter and colleague, embark on a frantic hunt through the streets, churches, and catacombs of Rome, following a 400-year-old trail to the lair of the Illuminati, to prevent the incineration of civilization.

Carbonara & Salisbury Steak - Yummy Delights From Red Ribbon

by , in
Dear Me,

I have always loved
Red Ribbon from the moment I started having cravings for cakes. Back when I was a little younger (hehehe), I would request my mom to bring me a slice of any cake so long as its from that bakeshop.

I grew up and could now earn my own keep. After work, I would dine in a nearby branch from the office and choose from their offerings suiting my tastebuds' preference.

Other than cakes and pastries, I haven't tasted anything from their menu.

Well, I was lucky enough to be invited (with other mommies) to experience their new and improved meals - the
Creamy Carbonara as well as the 100% All-Beef Salisbury Steak.

Pasta, being one of my comfort food, never fails to bore my desire to experience new tastes.

Being first served with their 'made more delectable'
Carbonara, I felt my mouth water from the moment my eyes laid on the plate.

It was made more delectable as promoted for the white sauce was creamier yet tastier than I least expected it would be. The creamy sauce was not lacking in taste for it was complemented with premium spices and healthier bits and strips of chicken, bacon and mushrooms. Topped with parsley and real shaved parmesan cheese, I couldn't stop forking my share from the plate. :) Another improved from this offering was the replacement of the usual buttered garlic bread with the new side bread with herbs which was delightfully soft and aromatic for my taste.

Next in line for some mommy tasting was their 'improved' 100% All-Beef Salisbury Steak.

I'm not really a salisbury steak fan for I've been turned off long ago. But I became a convert the minute I had a bite of their Salisbury Steak.

Unlike other salisbury steaks from other food establishments, Red Ribbon's was totally different. The patty was not thin and dry like any other beef patty I knew. It was truly 100% beef and the patty was much meatier and juicier generously dosed with rich mushroom gravy sauce. Together with a creamier mashed potato and buttered corn & carrots sidings, the meal was such welcome for a filling meal.

my little boy enjoyed his Red Ribbon treat

Red Ribbon's Creamy Carbonara and All-Beef Salisbury Steak meals are really mouth-watering treats for the entire family. I am looking forward to another family bonding-cum-food tasting delight this coming weekend! :)

Cool Summer Bonding With The Siblings

by , in
Dear Me,

We are three (3) siblings in the family. I'm the eldest in the brood. When we were younger, we used to fight all the time. Our parents always reprimanded us that we should love each other and not fight. Unfortunately, our bickering got the better of us than the fear of punishment from the parents. It was like nothing could make us sit in a room for a minute without hands clawing or pulling hair or punching faces.

Well, we grew up. I guessed those catfights among us were just a phase of normal interaction. We studied, graduated from university and worked our way to earn our own keep. Although we never came to the point of being so tight with each other, it is nonetheless comforting to know that we care and respect each other as siblings.

As the eldest, I thought of ways to spend more time with them since we were all busy with our own worlds. We had our own jobs, friends and gimmicks. We rarely sit down nor do movie marathons together.

So, I started out a plan and had it materialized. We agreed on a schedule and booked our flights to
Cebu. I told them that we would have a grand time for I would be touring them around.

Actually, it was a lot of many first times for them and even for me.

It was their first time to ride in a plane. Oh, just think how excited they were to the point that ground personnel had to guide them as they took snapshots of the plane and themselves. It was also their first time to travel in this popular destination. They only see my photos and hear my stories. It was also our first time to be together for the entire week in a far place.

my siblings

We visited and explored many places in Cebu. We dined and had food-tripping every restaurant we passed by. Despite our limited budget, we tried to experience new things together.

A week was such a short time but being together 24 hours a day, enjoying a lot of things with each other, poking fun, sharing confidences and aspirations, we agreed that it was a vacation we three would never forget. In fact, we would want to have another bonding vacation in the not-so-far future. :)

It's not yet too late, you know. By simply making a way to bond with your siblings, you can still
be cool this summer. :)

New Bag: Follow Your Heart

by , in
Dear Me,

It just so happened that hubby and little boy wouldn't be able to accompany me to my first
Krispy Kreme Taste Experience. Without them with me meant not bringing my big handy bag-cum diaper bag.

So I grabbed from my bag box one of the many small bags in the pack. I chose this small, black, soft leather tote bag I used to carry during my work in the corporate world. It had been two years since I've used it and thought it was fine. Needless to say, I found out that the soft leather had started to chipped off in wee parts as the hours wore on. It was so uncomfortable that I decided to shop for a new bag at that instant despite my inner self trying to chase away the whim of buying a new one.

Well, the eager whim won! I bought a new bag.

Together with
Ria and Ryan (who also had their own shopping in mind), we safely (after having a Market Market tour via their shuttle) arrived at Glorietta.

I wasn't yet certain what type of bag I would buy but I knew that the moment my eyes laid on it and I liked it, I would purchase it in a heartbeat.

If I wasn't mistaken, it was
Ryan who first saw it. We passed by this kiosk full of stylish yet colorful bags.

Sporting the catchy brand name Follow Your Heart, you will absolutely follow your heart once a particular bag catches your fancy. Their bags are fashionably affordable and stylish.

I was eyeing a violet (my favorite color) bag but wasn't impressed enough
. Ryan 'donned' this polka dot bag and surely it looked pleasing to me. I asked the seller if there was another color for that design and unfortunately, there wasn't.

To cut this bag narrative short, I bought it and I fell in love with it.

I love this bag because of its trendy look (the chewy polka dots and the small handle) as well as its functionality (its bigness serving its purpose for me). I just hope that its durability will last longer than I expect.

By the way,
Ria also bought one for herself. :)

If you're looking for refreshingly chic bags of any kind, better check Follow Your Heart kiosks/shops located in the malls. Their shops have a mixed collection of those eye-catching yet affordable bags. :)

New Book: Enduring Justice

by , in
Dear Me,

Two weeks ago, I received word that I won a copy of the book
Enduring Justice by Amy Wallace. I coveted the copy courtesy of Jennifer AlLee over her blog at Musings On This, That & The Other Thing.

About Enduring Justice by Amy Wallace

Hanna Kessler's childhood secret has remained buried for over two decades. But when the dark shadows of her past threaten to destroy those she loves, Hanna must face the summer that changed her life and the man who still haunts her memories.

As a Crimes Against Children FBI Agent, Michael Parker knows what it means to get knocked down. Difficult cases and broken relationships have plagued his entire year. But when the system fails and a white supremacist is set free, Michael's drive for retribution eclipses all else.

A racist's well-planned assault forces Hanna and Michael to decide between executing vengeance and pursuing justice. The dividing line between the two is the choice to heal. But when the attack turns personal, is justice enough?

I am looking forward to receiving this from the mail. I can't wait. To Jennifer, thanks a lot! :)

PhotoHunt: Walking

by , in
Dear Me,

It's another fantastic day for yesterday was a holiday. We were supposed to go malling but the little boy was having his tantrums.

It's Saturday, another
PhotoHunt week. :)

WALKING is today's theme!

Just coming out of our vacation hotel in Cebu, my siblings preferred to walk down so as to satisfy their itchy traveling feet. It was their first time in this famous vacation destination and they wanted to explore the places around them.

See those 2 peaks up there? That was where we came from. Descending from the mountain, we walked for a long stretch before reaching the main street. It was blazing hot!

Family Well-Being

by , in
Dear Me,

Having my own family has taught me to think and appreciate their existence. In this lifetime, it seems like we are all living short and leaving early.

Before taking steps to oversee their wellness, it is best to make one's self happy and content. By doing it, the family will be assured of your utmost love and concern.

The first step is to make yourself happy by treating yourself well.
  1. Hit the beach and frolic in the sand.

  2. Pamper yourself by getting a manicure and pedicure.

  3. Shop in the mall and buy that fabulous summer dress you've been ogling for weeks.

  4. Tread the neighborhood path and smell the flowers.

  5. Read a good book while sipping your favorite drink in a coffee shop.

  6. Watch the sun as it rises in the morning and sets in the evening.

  7. Gather your art stuff and paint/draw a charming landscape.

Whatever activity you'll engage in, the important thing is that you're spending some ME time and you're pleased to do it.

Once you've done that and feeling rejuvenated, you can now focus on the wellness of your family. After all, they're the reason for your being. :)

Start indulging the family into a healthier lifestyle.
  1. Eat healthy food with the kids especially the little ones so they will learn the value of healthy living.

  2. Together with the family, sweat it all out by jogging and doing exercises.

  3. Have fun preparing and cooking healthy meals for everyone. It would be such a fun togetherness if the parents share the benefits of eating such food.

Each and every member of the family can share and do their own little way of enriching their familial lives.

The best way is to spend more quality time with your love ones.
  1. Engage in conversations with your children and the rest of the household. Trying to learn how everyone spent their day or asking the kids what happened in school or asking the husband or wife about her day at work seems like a good way to start the ball rolling.

  2. While doing that, make sure that each member is attuned to the significance of making eye contact, facial expressions and body languages. Words may mean one thing but gestures and the likes may mean differently.

  3. Discover and understand the physical and emotional needs of each family member. Appreciate what they can and share how to improve them.

  4. Have a good laugh with everyone by reminiscing the good days of loving fun.

  5. Share your family dreams and try to live those dreams with them.

I love my family as you love yours. Take steps in achieving a certain level of understanding about family wellness.

To wit,
"Good family life is never an accident but always an achievement by those who share it." ~ James H.S. Bossard

Also, "The family is one of nature's masterpieces." ~ George Santayana

And I definitely agree. :)
