WW - Caught In The Act @ 18 Months

by , in
Dear Me,

My little boy is currently in the stage of exploring a lot of things around him (even though they're hidden...hehehe). He found my bag and picked an item that grabbed his curiosity.

Look what treasure he discovered in my bag!

Oh, do you think he really find any loot at all? Hehehe.

His Own World Of Books

by , in
Dear Me,

Being a bibliophile myself, I would like my little boy to grow up around books. I would like to instill in him the passion for reading.

Books develop and broaden horizons and for little ones, I believe that starting them young will help them as they grow older.

I have taken snapshots of little
Miguel's own book collection. He shares a couple of shelves from me so his books will have their own places in the house. :)

Being a year and six months old, his books range from coloring books to the educational/learning starter books such as the ABCs.

The shelf above contains his coloring books, learning the alphabet and numbers books, beginner's shapes books, board books of trucks, dogs and kittens, illustration books and flashcards with Barney's photo, too.

It also contains the kiddie books we bought from our
MV Doulos trip.

This one is the shelf located in the living room. It contains his other mini board books and some glitter books. He also has some books featuring Winnie D Pooh and friends. :)

This one is rarely accessed by him...yet. It contains his I Wonder Why books, a gift from his aunt. He is still too young to flip those pages and I'm afraid they will be all torn up when he's able to use or read them.

Also, it houses some baby-kiddie books meant for my reading.

Well, those books will soon grow in numbers for I am looking forward to another book binging a few days from now. This time, books for the little boy! :)

Unconscious Mutterings: Six

by , in
Dear Me,

It's a fine Sunday and the sun is shining so hot and bright!

The family is supposed to do the groceries right now but my little boy feels like napping. The food shopping is postponed until he's up and about! :)

@@@@@@@@@

To re-introduce this mind exercise:

Unconscious Mutterings.
Free association is described as a "psychonanalytic procedure in which a person is encouraged to give free rein to his or her thoughts and feelings, verbalizing whatever comes into the mind without monitoring its content." Over time, this technique is supposed to help bring forth repressed thoughts and feelings that the person can then work through to gain a better sense of self.

That's an admirable goal, but for the purposes of this exercise, we're just hoping to have a little fun with the technique. Each week I'll post ten words to which you can respond to with the first thing that comes to mind.

"Rules are, there are no rules." There are no right or wrong answers. Don't limit yourself to one word responses; just say everything that pops into your head. AND you don't have to have your words up on Sunday. Take all week if you want! Read the FAQ for more information.

  1. Soul :: searching

  2. Fold :: laundry (hehehe)

  3. Breakup :: separate

  4. Will :: gonna do

  5. Fond :: memories

  6. Powers :: sustains

  7. Ho-hum :: undecided

  8. Hustle :: competitive struggle

  9. Avenue :: Q?

  10. Tower :: skyscraper

Have time? Participate and let your mind do the muttering. :)

Hello, Who's There? @ 18 Months

by , in
Dear Me,

Little
Miguel loves to play with our mobile phones and laptops. He's amused everytime the phone lights up when he punches a button. He's also amazed when the computer screen moves up and down when he rolls the mouse using his fingers.

When he holds our mobile phones, we already expect it that he is able to call someone or send a blank text message or MMS to anybody in the phonebook. We discovered that little mischief when friends called back or sent a note why we were contacting them.

PS. He was having Cerelac when these photos were taken. :)

Sweet Pampering At BlueWater Day Spa Capitol Hills

by , in
Dear Me,

Back when I was still part of the buzzing corporate world of not so long ago, I used to treat myself with excessive indulgence in spas to de-stress and rejuvenate both my mind and body.

I think every individual I know complains about the pressure of the demands of their work. Every now and then and when hectic schedules permit such luxury, it is the relaxing spa services that comes to mind (aside from the typical unwinding in a bar with friends and colleagues).

When motherhood called me not more than two years ago, I had to give up my space in that side of the world and tend to my little angel.

Being a full-time mom and homemaker is as much as heavenly as it is nerve-wracking.

For moms and wives out there, there is a new place that's creating a soothing buzz around town.

The latest branch of the BlueWater Day Spa family, the BlueWater Day Spa Capitol Hills offers a detoxifying atmosphere with its charming view of being surrounded by greenery.

Browsing their services, I am most likely to try their
Traditional Filipino Massage for I love the way my body reacts to it. I can literally feel how tension and muscle aches leave my body with each massage stroke.

Also, having that massage while enjoying their Spa Home Theater system will absolutely release the stress inside your exhausted body.

To feel that luxurious yet affordable spa experience, do check
BlueWater Day Spa Capitol Hills.

Winner: Ms Congeniality 2 Notebook Blog Giveaway

by , in
Dear Me,

My apologies for the delay. I was supposed to draw a winner in my
Ms Congeniality 2 Notebook Blog Giveaway last Saturday.

It just happened that I had to go out to attend to an event (which I almost forgot) in the afternoon while hubby and his officemates left early in the morning to hike Taytay Falls in Majayjay, Laguna.

With just me left to take care of little Miguel and the house, I had to tend the household chores, bathe the angel and packed our stuff for the trip out.

I also got busy when we got back home in the evening. I participated in the
24 Hour Read-A-Thon.

Anyway, I've been busy and slept the remaining days off.

I was planning to use the same method of drawing the winner like I did last time. Unfortunately, I have lot of things to think of and doing it will take so much time.

I utilized the most common method other prize givers resort to when drawing the winners: via
random.org.

Out of the pool of eligible comments I received and using the said random generator, I'm pleased to announce the winner of my blog giveaway:

To Nicely, please send me your name and mailing information at my email address.

To everyone who joined, thank you very much for participating in my blog giveaway. I am having another giveaway coming up within this week. Stay tuned.

Toodles!

24 Hour Read-A-Thon: End Of The Event Meme

by , in
Dear Me,

Yehey! I'm almost done. Let me speak my mind.

  1. Which hour was most daunting for you?

~ I only read three (3) from my pile so I wouldn't complain. But I would have preferred to start the reading time like everybody else, anywhere in the world. It was less demanding for me, to say the least.

  2. Could you list a few high-interest books that you think could keep a Reader engaged for next year?

~ Like everyone suggests, have a young adult (YA) book or any light reading material handy to start with.

  3. Do you have any suggestions for how to improve the Read-a-thon next year?

~ Nothing. This is just my second year. :) I'm still enjoying it as it is.

  4. What do you think worked really well in this year's Read-a-thon?

~ The blog feeds as well as the main site were helpful.

  5. How many books did you read?

    ~ Only 3 books.

  6. What were the names of the books you read?

~ The President's Daughter by Jack Higgins
~ The Rainmaker by John Grisham
~ The Eight by Katherine Neville

  7. Which book did you enjoy most?

~ The Eight by Katherine Neville

  8. Which did you enjoy least?

~ I enjoyed all three, actually.

  9. If you were a Cheerleader, do you have any advice for next year's Cheerleaders?

~ I thought they did well in doing their duties as cheerers. :) I guessed they enjoyed visiting other read-a-thon(ers) blogs. :)

  10. How likely are you to participate in the Read-a-thon again? What role would you be likely to take next time?

~Highly likely that I'll be participating again. I will still be a Reader. :)

To everyone, thank you very much. I had so much fun. :)

by , in
Dear Me,

I'm sealing my fate. I'm ending the
24 Hour Read-A-Thon with my third book, The President's Daughter by Jack Higgins. I have to prepare dinner for the family and sort out the pile of papers cluttered around the house. It's already time for me to take the household reins and be the woman of the house, so to speak.

24 Hour Read-A-Thon: Honoring Dewey

by , in
Dear Me,

Like a bullet train in Japan, I whizzed by washing the dishes and showered myself. It's sweltering hot here in my part of the world and although I would like to shower longer, I refreshed myself for only fifteen minutes. Hehehe. I could do ten minutes but I really want to feel cool. Anyway, I'm looking forward to another shower after this marathon reading. :)

I don't want to end this very lively activity without saying something about the person who made the book blogging community such a great place to be in.
Dewey from The Hidden Side of a Leaf passed away last year. She was the beautiful person who initiated a lot of book-related activities for book bloggers. I am not a book blogger entirely for I blog a lot of things about life.

I haven't really known her that much but I came to know her first from Bookmooch. I was looking for a copy of the book The 9/11 Commission Report: Final Report of the National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States by the National Commission on Terrorist Attacks and she happened to have it. I mooched it from her and she was honest enough to tell me that her copy was water-stained. I told her that it didn't matter so long as the book could be clearly read. She sent it to me quick and even told me to visit her site for she gave away books. I visited her site and although I wasn't able to join her giveaways, I enjoyed reading her book blog for they contained such humongous knowledge, opinions and recommendations about various books.

Also, she cheered me on during my first participation in the reading marathon last year.

I told you. I didn't know her enough but I liked the way she handled and shared things to book lovers.

A woman with substance and generous spirit!

24 Hour Read-A-Thon: Taking A Break

by , in
Dear Me,

I ought to take a breather. I kinda got distracted reading when my sister came up in MY corner and asked about something related to family matters. That something has created a tiff between my folks for weeks. They're both in good terms as of last week but my sister coming up tells me something heated is brewing in the air. Hotter than my cup of coffee.

Anyway, it would be nice to finish my fourth book in the list,
The Hitler File: The Essential Facts by Patrick Delaforce but I am not hoping. I'm still on my 34th page of my third book, The President's Daughter by Jack Higgins.

Twenty years after his affair with a beautiful Frenchwoman in Vietnam, Jake Cazalet finds out he has a daughter. He must keep it a secret -- but years later, when he is President of the United States, someone discovers the truth.

And when his only child is kidnapped by a terrorist group, he must count on British operative Sean Dillon and FBI agent Blake Johnson to find her.

Actually, I like this book. So smooth and my kind of book, too!

Here's what I'm having:

I'm having egg pie from Goldilocks. Yumyum!

Mouth watering creamy custard filling baked in a special pie crust and cooked to the right tenderness with a caramelized top.

24 Hour Read-A-Thon: Progress 4

by , in
Dear Me,

Before I chewed and swallowed and drank, I finished my second book
The Rainmaker by John Grisham.

I'm charged up. I've just 'devoured' my lunch but still within the limits of my rice intake. I had a local dish called beef kaldereta for my sumptuous meal.

Title of book(s) read since last update:
~ The Eight by Katherine Neville
~ The Rainmaker by John Grisham

~ I've always been a Grisham fan. It was due to my regret and frustration of university education choices. I should have tried to get in the College of Law back in my university studies since I took a multi-disciplinary course and Pre-Law was one of them. I always wondered what if and there were too many what ifs-and-then.

Anyway, this book was such a fun read that I again, regret, not taking it the first time. Rudy Baylor was an underdog and he became a David vs The Goliaths. Although a little predictable in the end, it's a Grisham book that endears the author to me. :)

Number of books read since you started:
~ Done with two (2) books

Pages read since last update:
~ 598 pages (1st book) + another 598 pages (2nd book) excluding the cover and the few pages before chapters 1. :)

24 Hour Read-A-Thon: You Know You're In Marathon Reading Mini Challenge

by , in
Dear Me,

I'm now participating in
Staci's mini-challenge called Signs You're In A Read-A-Thon at Life In The Thumb.

YOU KNOW YOU'RE IN A BOOK READING MARATHON WHEN...

... the only lights up is your lampshade in your mini-reading nook
because everyone has retired for the night.

... you bring the book you're reading to the toilet as you pee. Hehehe.

... you realize that you've already on your third time brewing coffee to keep you perked up.

... you request hubby to be the nanny for the entire 24 hours.

... being surrounded by books takes precedence over shopping which to be funded by hubby. Shoot! *winks*

... your brain sends signal that yummy food is on the table and you don't mind it unless you're starving to death.

... your little boy was wailing out loud because hubby was trying to feed him when you've already fed him. Hahaha!

... you walk around like a zombie, back and forth, left to right, with a book in hand.

... you jump like crazy just to liven up the nerves in your eyes, mind and body while your hubby in the other room wondered if there was a little earthquake!

... hubby gives you a little massage in the back as you read. Ain't that sweet? :)

Just my little contribution to the growing list! Have fun everyone. :)

24 Hour Read-A-Thon: Progress 3

by , in
Dear Me,

Well, I'm done doing the rounds and answering two mini-challenges. Also, I'm done with my first book.

Title of book(s) read since last update:
~ The Eight by Katherine Neville

~ I thoroughly enjoyed this book because of the suspenseful plot. Although there are times I have to flipped back some pages to track and be well acquainted with many characters in the story. It was very intriguing to the point that I took notes of some things that I knew were quite historical and which I would later on, check its veracity. :) I would say it's better than Da Vinci Code but quite at par with Steve Berry's books. At 598 pages, this book was a thrill for me although not recommended to read when you're jumpstarting your reading marathon.

Number of books read since you started:
~ Yehey! I finished this book. I'm off to reading The Rainmaker by John Grisham. I need some 'light' (considering my book selection) reading.

Pages read since last update:
~ 598 pages (1st book) + 73 pages (2nd book) excluding the cover and the few pages before chapter 1. :)

24 Hour Read-A-Thon: Erin's Mini Challenge

by , in
Dear Me,

I've just participated in my first mini-challenge as hosted by
Tammy at Book Nook.

Now, I'm off to Erin's Reading Madness Mini Challenge. I'm choosing Option 2, which is the Hue Test. If you have an eye for color, you will fare well in arranging the colors according to the degree of their hue saturation.

According to the site,

a lower score is better, with ZERO being the perfect score.

Well, I got 35. Better than I expected. Hehehe.

24 Hour Read-A-Thon

by , in
Dear Me,

I slept like 4:00 am today and just woke up a quarter before 10:00 am. I know, I overslept. I shouldn't have gotten out yesterday but the event I attended was something I would really like to be informed out and to show my support as well. I had no regrets with that and although right now, I'm feeling a little down because I wasn't able to clock in at the desired time, I am trying to accept the fact that I wouldn't be able to finish all four books for the next nine (9) hours.

Upon waking up, I tidied up the house cluttered with my little son's toys and what-have-yous. After that, I prepared his breakfast so hubby could feed him. While brewing coffee, I am bloghopping and reading everyone's entries. Also, I'll be doing some mini-challenges (although mini-challenges are supposed to serve as breathers which I am not in need of...hehehe) for fun till the next comes to a close.

Read-A-Thon: Progress 1

by , in
Dear Me,

Although I'm a little exhausted from the day-out my little boy and I had just a few hours back (the reason why I'm a little behind), I am not that sleepy and can still hold a book, flip its pages and read.

To update my progress, I am following this format:

Title of book(s) read since last update:
~ The Eight by Katherine Neville

Number of books read since you started:
~ Aw, this is my first book.

Pages read since last update:
~ 26 pages excluding the cover and the few pages before chapter 1. :)

Running total of pages read since you started:
~ 36 pages

Mini-challenges completed:
~ None yet.

Other participants you've visited:
~ Maybe later, when I'm already done with my first book.

I was supposed to read John Grisham's book but I thought The Eight by Katherine Neville will perk me up since the plot seems like my kind of pleasure read.

After 36 pages (slow, I know but I'm tending some things on the side and that's also the reason why I can't track the time duration spent on reading), I'm waiting for the excitement and suspense to burst!

I've been hearing rave reviews about this book and I want to see (read) for myself if all the hype's worth it.

24 Hour Read-A-Thon

by , in
Dear Me,

Less than three hours ago marked the beginning of the
24 Hour Read-A-Thon reading challenge. It's a 24-hour challenge where you devote your time to reading books that have been piling up high and taking quite a room space in your house.

Previously initiated by
Dewey, this popular endeavor among bibliophiles has lived on despite her passing last year.

This year, the
24 Hour Read-A-Thon is being hosted by Nymeth, Trish and Wordlily.

Since I'm three hours behind, here's my Read-A-Thon pile:

  1. The President's Daughter by Jack Higgins

  2. The Rainmaker by John Grisham

  3. The Hitler File: The Essential Facts by Patrick Delaforce

  4. The Eight by Katherine Neville

Unlike last year, I'm only targeting four (4) books. I'm a little way behind.

I'm supposed to read the books in my reading challenges but I'm not in the mood to pick them up. :)

Toodles!

A Fabulous Make-Over

by , in
Dear Me,

I'm so pleased with myself. Hahaha.

See my new look? I look fab, don't I?

Okay. I'm not talking about the owner of this blog but the blog itself. Hahaha.

I've been looking for a perfect lay-out and I thought the one below was for keep.

I love books and although I wasn't able to tell much about it lately, I would like to sport this one for my blog. Unfortunately, I kinda felt incomplete and dissatisfied.

Although I was pressed for time searching for one appealing lay-out, I was too determined to search the world wide web yesterday. I focused on the chore of exploring every available sites, scrolling, browsing, checking if what I thought would be fine would fit.

I discovered less than a handful of beautiful templates but everytime I tested them, each of them displayed wonky codes.

My efforts paid off sooner than I expected. I thought that sitting down and standing up (to attend to my little angel) would yield nothing but before the day totally ended,
I found the perfect fit!

Fab, isn't it? :)

I love the cuteness of the header with the buttons, flower and safety pins. It looks so simple yet beautiful. Most of all, I fell in love with the
VIOLET background! After all, it's my all-time favorite color! :)

I'm still tweaking the sidebar and hoping every widget will work out. I'll be minimizing a number of them so page loading will be a little faster than usual.

I'm also arranging my blog roll and if you want to be included, please post your blog links here. No spammers, please. :)

I took these photos an hour ago. I feel light and carefree at the moment despite my long list of to-dos. I am looking forward to a very productive day. :)

Hope you have a fantastic Tuesday!

My First Krispy Kreme Taste Experience

by , in
Dear Me,

I have a confession to make. When people go crazy, break their habits and drool over something new, I tend to veer away and take the opposite path. As long as the hype is still in its highest intensity or the buzz hasn't died down, I discourage myself from joining the fun. I really don't have to exert too much effort dissuading myself for I am totally disinterested to that fact.

Examples: the
Harry Potter books and movies, Go Nuts Donuts, reality tv shows, Twilight series, etc.

Add
Krispy Kreme to the list above.

Having opened its first store in the Philippines in 2006, eager customers have lined up trying to beat each others' earliest time just to have a piece of the melts-in-your-mouth doughnut.

Despite the mushrooming of this popular doughnut store in key cities in the country, it was only that one fine morning in March 2009 that I brought myself to believe that I was the only person on earth who hadn't tasted that doughnut.

As luck would had it or probably an angel who pitied me,
kaoko of Kitchen Cow gave me a heads-up about Krispy Kreme's Chocolate Karnival wherein you could glaze yourself and friends with Chocolate Glazed Doughnut and a signature coffee for FREE!

A few days later, I attended the Chocolate Karnival launch of the chocolate-glazed doughnut offerings at the Bonifacio High Street. It was such a fun day of carnival-themed festivity! There were jolly clowns who performed as well as games such as pachinko, doughnut ring toss, cups and boxes stacking. Playing those four games would earn a player four sweet gift certificates!

I wasn't intent on playing and instead was willing to shell out more than three hundred pesos just to purchase a box of those mouth-watering choco doughs! But new friend
Ria was such a warm supporter! Hehehe. I played and the rest was history. I brought home a box-full!

moi with the KK stick-on

new friend yapatoots

Anyway, I had my very first Krispy Kreme bite on hot-from-the-oven Chocolate Glazed Doughnut. It was literally mouth-watering for I could see how the chocolate oozed from the doughnut as I took a bite! It was a delightful experience!

When it was first sold in 1937, no one knew how wildly popular these sweet treats would be.

But doughnut lovers today, over 60 years since the first batch was sold, can’t get enough of the hottest, freshest confectionary indulgence.

Clearly, it's no simple doughnut that would spur thousands to stand in line for hours. Krispy Kreme - made from a 72-year old secret recipe - is reportedly a favorite by President Clinton, beloved by NBA star Shaquille O'Neal and so loved by crooner Jimmy Buffet that he wrote a song about it. The pillowy pastry has been featured in nearly 80 movies and TV shows. Even A-listers Julia Roberts and Nicole Kidman profess to be fans. And to cement its status, Krispy Kreme artifacts were inducted into the Smithson Institution's National Museum of American History.

It is decidedly the celebrity of doughnuts and a phenomenon abroad - complete with devoted acolytes and a consistently growing following - so it was only a matter of time before the Philippines got their own little piece of the dough.

True enough, by 2006, when the first Krispy Kreme opened at Bonifacio High Street, the Philippines broke Asia's records for the Longest Line, Most Doughnuts Sold and the Earliest Customer to Fall in Line. As soon as the conveyor belt that whisked the light, melts-in-your mouth doughnut started, and the Hotlight ("hot doughnuts now" red neon sign) flicked on, the shop swelled with eager customers. Krispy Kreme calls it the "Doughnut Theater"—and the sight and smell of one of their doughnut machines that can glaze a little over three thousand doughnuts an hour, was the reason behind the opening-day record breaking lines that caused pedestrian snarls.

Since then, they have opened ten stores across the metro, breaking new records (setting the one for the earliest drive-thru to line-up when the Mall of Asia Drive-Thru store opened) and continuously innovating to take sweet-tooth satisfaction to new heights.

Which is why, coming in the wake of their success, Krispy Kreme continues to push the envelope for sweet-tooths across the Philippines with the introduction of the Chocolate Karnival. After all, what else can trump already established cult favorites than the introduction of the Greatest Chocolate Show on Earth?

Launched recently, the infamous Hot Original Glazed gets itself a decidedly chocolate-y make-over with the addition of the Chocolate Glazed Doughnut to Krispy Kreme's wide range of melt-in-your-mouth doughnut offerings.

For true sweet tooths and chocoholics, a single doughnut is the ultimate experience. Combining the pillowy perfection of Krispy Kreme doughnuts with the rich, decadent gloss of chocolate, it's where one will find love at first bite. Be sure to hold off for other treats as well—variations of the Chocolate Glazed come in Chocolate Glazed Traditional Cake, Double Chocolate Cake, Chocolate Glazed Vanilla Cake, Chocolate Glazed Vanilla Cruller Cake, Chocolate Glazed with Sprinkles, Chocolate Glazed Strawberry Filled, Chocolate Glazed Raspberry Filled, Chocolate Glazed Custard Filled and the Chocolate Glazed Kreme Filled.

Why don't you glaze yourself with this sweet chocolate indulgence? Better yet, go glaze your friends! Visit www.chocolatekarnival.com and claim your free electronic gift coupon from Krispy Kreme!

Manic Monday #12

by , in
Dear Me,

I'm currently enjoying my new, little nook in the house. I'm sitting in front of my laptop typing the keys away surrounded by my books! :)

Do you recycle? Why or why not?
~ Oh yes, I do recycle a lot of things.
I am into this book-swapping site and I re-use the packaging materials I got so long it's acceptable and decent.
Instead of discarding printed papers, I re-use the back page as scratch pads.
I donate old clothes instead of throwing them away.
Old milk cans and ice cream containers are converted to flower pots.

Would you rather be a pirate or a prince/princess?
~ I prefer to be a pirate. I don't think my personality won't do justice as a member of royalty. :)

Are you into astrology? If yes, how does it affect your life?
~ Nope. I believe that each individual is destined for something else (although there are times that astrology readings paint a smile on to my face).

Color His World

by , in
Dear Me,

I am supposed to sort my photo archive as well as blog (so I can share those photos with friends) but I don't have the heart to do so. I surfed around and discovered a colorful mine for my little boy.

Miguel loves to hold crayons and swab them on his coloring books. We usually buy big coloring books for his own fun.

If he thinks that a certain page has been tinged with his crayon, he would like to turn to another page and apply color on it as well.

Last time, we bought him coloring books and now, they're all used up.

I think
Free Coloring Pages and Color Page Fun will be such a great resource for moms out there.

The site offers
free printable coloring pages of various categories perfect for little children who love to color such as the alphabet,

animals,

numbers,

cartoons,

toys,

etc. Just download the chosen pages and print them for free without the ads. :)

I think sharing this activity will be both fun for me and my little boy. I believe that doing this activity will help
Miguel's learning process and develop certain skills in the areas of color concepts, eye and hand coordination, photo comprehension and others.

It will be an enjoyable moment for little
Miguel to unleash his creativity!
